    Log Cabin Love

The quintessential American home isn't a Greek-revival or Victorian, but the Log cabin. Log cabin construction started in the 1700s when Swedish settlers brought building customs from their home country.

The design of America's log cabins was influenced by the Homestead Act of 1862. The Act gave "homesteaders" rights to open land, but required that they cultivate it and build homes at least ten by twelve feet in size, with at least one glass window.

Today's log cabins are much more luxurious and feature all the amenities you'd find in any modern home. But proper care and maintenance still requires a contractor with log cabin experience. American Log Restoration, and Vintage Log and Lumber, are just a few of the renovators who specialize in this brand of home building.
