    A-Frame House Survives Tornado

    a-frame-house.jpg

Parts of Iowa were ravaged by tornadoes last week that killed 5 people and destroyed about 400 homes. But one of the homes in Parkersburg, IA managed to withstand the 200mph winds and it's owners are attributing it's A-Frame construction to saving their home.

"We assume (the storm) couldn't get any purchase. It couldn't get any lift," said Bob Nemeyer, who works at Waterloo's Grout Museum.

The stringers, essentially the roof studs, are also closer together than standard roofs, he said.

It could be, but tornadoes are weird, too, touching down one spot and ignoring the next. They'll wreck a stick-built and leave the manufactured home standing next door. There was a story on Yahoo the other day about one that unrolled the toilet paper off the spindle and rerolled it back into the sink without ripping a sheet. :P
