    This article highlights a study from the University of Utah that states that areas of higher population density typically have residents who maintain a healthier weight. This is due to the walkability and pedestrian friendly design of their neighborhood.

     
     

    Residents who live in older urban environments such as New York City and San Francisco tend to not suffer from obesity like their suburban counterparts. Maybe this explains why the majority of overweight people you see in the city are clustered around Times Square.
