How to Care for Brick Flooring

While brick flooring has been around for millenia as a building material, once it moves inside it does require more maintenance, despite its reputation for strong durability.

Brick flooring for indoors is made of various materials ground up to form tiles. Depending on the quality of the materials, brick flooring can crack easily crack if it is too porous. To avoid this, look for high-quality brick tiles with a Measurement of Hardness (MOH) rating that is 5 or 6. These tiles will also have likely been treated with a sealant or a chemical mixture to make cleaning your brick flooring easier.

Once installed, brick floors should be resealed once a year. Wax is optional, as it can leave streaks.

   

When professionally installed, brick flooring is often coated with a sealant, and if you are patient enough to install brick flooring on your own, you should also coat it with a sealant to give it a smooth cleaning surface.

Treated and glazed brick flooring can be easily cleaned using a simple mop or broom. Because of their durability, they can be vacuumed as well.

However, do not use strong soaps or abrasive cleansers as they will strip off the wax and sealants that protect brick floors from dust. Most of the time, just using a mop with water is sufficient to clean brick flooring.
