Dwell on Design 2010: Contemporary and Sustainable

    Dwell-on-Design05.jpg

This was our first time visiting Dwell on Design which was held at the Los Angeles convention center. It's billed as the largest design show on the West coast. There were over 200 exhibitors and a ton of discussion panels that focused on design and sustainability.

HP also sponsored a blogger lunch in which they announced a few new products. The laptop that caught our eye was from their collaboration with Vivienne Tam who they said came to the first meeting with a bouquet of peonies and wanted the them to look like they were behind glass in the design of the mini-laptop. It came out pretty well and sure beats the typical PC designs we come to know and be bored of.

Dwell also announced a new product - a 3D virtual room planner. It's called the Homestyler and it's from Autodesk. We can't wait to play around with it and I'm sure it will be a must add to our list of top virtual room planning tools.

Some of our other favorite products from the show include:

IdeaPaint - Turns any smooth surface into a dry erase board

bioLime - non-toxic plasters and paints that are lime-based.

    Campaign Furniture Company
    - High quality outdoor furniture that's best suited for luxury camping. Think Abercrombie and Fitch.

Contemporary design can be difficult to describe, as it is a melange of items and themes strategically woven together to create an inviting and simple decor. Knowing what to include in a contemporary motif is just as important as knowing what to exclude.
