Quick Tip? Install A Furnace Filter Whistle

    FurnaceFilterWhistle.JPG

That's right -- now, your furnace can whistle while it works! Or, rather, doesn't work, as the furnace filter whistle emits noise when your furnace filter is 50 percent clogged.

Knowing when to change your furnace filter can go a long way in maximizing your system's performance. When the filter is dirty or clogged, it can have a negative impact on the furnace's energy efficiency, and, as a result, you may see higher energy costs.

For a mere $1.69, this may be the cheapest--and easiest--DIY project you tackle this year! The whistle will also ensure that you don't change your furnace filter too often. In prior decades, HVAC professionals recommended a monthly filter change, but with today's filters, that period of time can extend to at least three months, if not more.

Well, efficiency is very important. This filter whistle helps to know when to change filter, this will definitely increase the efficiency of the furnace.

You're missing the point entirely. It would increase efficiency if it worked, but it doesn't.

These things don't work at all!

I once installed one of these in a filter that was coated in an extremely thick layer of dust, one of the dirtiest I've ever seen(and I've seen a lot), and the whistle didn't make a sound!

Furthermore this filter was actually undersized, so this was a best-case scenario for that whistle to sound. If it wouldn't whistle in this situation, I can't imagine any situation where it would work. It certainly is not a reliable indicator of filter cleanliness.

FYI I am sure I installed the whistle correctly, and even tried it backwards to make sure. This thing simply does not work.
