We don’t want to completely bypass Thanksgiving to get to Christmas, but many people opt to break out the holiday decorations the weekend after Turkey Day.
And if you have Christmas lights hanging on a tree, elsewhere in your home or outside, you may want to make the switch to Energy Star-certified strands.
Even modest decoration displays can consume increased energy during the holiday season. Lights adorned with the Energy Star label “meet strict energy-efficiency guidelines established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy,” according to ChristmasLightsEtc.com.
Experts estimate that switching to Energy Star lights can reduce power consumption by 80 to 90 percent when compared to traditional incandescent Christmas lights. These LED lights are typically longer lasting, too; you can expect to use them for a decade or more.
