The primary reason your yard, basement, and home can flood during a rain storm is because the drainage near your home is not setup correctly or is blocked. The number one culprit of a clogged drain are leaves, so remember to not only clear your property of leaves but make sure your neighbors have as well. A visual check along your street will also tell if you if the city has taken care to remove leaves that may have collected along the curbs that could eventually find their way into manholes or drain covers.
