ADT Buys Brinks Security

adt-brinks-security.jpg

In a deal worth about $2 billion, ADT (owned by Tyco Intl) bought Brink's Home Security which combines two of the nation's largest home security companies.

Brink's which operates as Broadview Security provides monitored security systems in North America, and 93 percent of its 1.3 million customers are residential.

ADT provides electronic security to more than 7.4 million residential, commercial and institutional accounts worldwide. Tyco also provides fire protection services and industrial valves and pipe products.

These are the two biggest firms on the block and must pass anti-trust regulations before the deal is approved. Hopefully customers of both services will have uninterrupted service and receive the same if better customer service.

~Hat tip to Tabatha for the heads up on this one.

what happens to the sales people who work for brinks?

  • solbash

Some may apply to work for a company-owned ADT branch. Others may be directed to one of the hundreds of ADT independent dealers. Those in Los Angeles are welcome to call me for a possible position: West Hills Alarm Company 818-710-1111

What happens to existing Broadview hardware? Will existing Broadview customers have to pay to switch to ADT equipment?

  • solbash

This will probably go like all other ADT acquisitions. Even though Brinks used proprietary hardware, all alarm signals will be eventually directed to the ADT central station. Brinks subscribers will continue to use their current systems until they need to upgrade. At that point, the approved ADT (a customized Honeywell) system will be installed.
