Design Blog Panel at KBIS 2011

Last year I spoke on the design blog panel at the Kitchen and Bath Show in Las Vegas. I joined a couple of my good friends including Chris Phillips of Apartment Therapy, Susan Serra and Megan Arquette.

KBIS is back in Chicago next year and I look forward to attending and hopefully speaking again.

Here's the video and yes, I do like to make the same hand gestures over and over.

Kitchen and Bath Show (KBIS) 2011: Trends and Impressions

kitchen-bath-industry-show.jpg

The biggest three days in the kitchen and bath universe have started at the convention center in Las Vegas with the kickoff of the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show which is known as KBIS.

All the big brands are here plus many of the smaller one's all vying to share their latest and greatest products to the throngs of designers, home builders, showrooms and media.

Yesterday we had the pleasure to participate in the Design Blog panel at the Scripps Multimedia Lounge. I joined four other bloggers as we discussed topics ranging from social media, blogging and our opinions on the future of online media. It was a great experience and I hope they bring back the panel next year and I look forward to more questions from the audience. If you didn't get a chance to ask something send me a message.

First Impressions

The Vibe: Some have said the show is much smaller than in years past and that is true but the smaller vibe also tends to create more energy in a smaller space. It will be a long time before we ever get back to the heyday that was 5-6 years ago in this industry but if a realistic trade show size is achieved and the attendees are here then I think the show is a success.

A Fun-Filled Day with Delta Faucet & Brizo

Yes, being around faucets all day can be fun (at least for one day) as the folks at Delta Faucet Co. proved to myself, assistant editor Katy Ryan and roughly 15 other new media outlets covering home improvement and remodeling that were invited to participate in their 2010 media day.

Being welcomed with a shower (no pun intended) of applause by 100 Delta Faucet employees is a great way to start the day. This gesture felt genuine without a hint of pretense and speaks volumes to their corporate culture of which we're going to get a taste of throughout the day.

There's Gold in them Kohler Fixtures

If you were in the mood for a robotic looking kitchen faucet that was available in gold, then you were in luck this year at the 2010 Builders' Show. The Kohler Karbon Kitchen Faucet had an industrial look of a robotic arm but the brushed gold gave it a more civilized appearance.
