5 Handy House Painting Tips

Are you tired of getting paint all over everything while you are painting? There are some easy ways to stop this. Do you sometimes hate painting because of the time it takes to all the detail work? I have some handy house painting tips that will help you and make your painting job easier.

Paint the trim last
Before painting the trim you need to paint the walls first. When doing the walls with a roller it is very easy to get paint all over the trim from the paint flipping off the roller. The trim
is the most hated part of painting so why make it harder than it already is and have to do it twice? Do the trim last and save yourself time and headaches.

Use a new brush for corners
If you want to know where your trim and your walls start and end make sure you use a new brush every time in order to get that clean line. If you are using an older brush you will most likely have clumps and hard bristles on the brush. Also make sure you do all the corners before you paint the bigger part of the walls with the roller. This will save you time and you can go faster with the roller because you don't have to slow down where you get to the edges.

Use a sheet
If you want to make your cleanup job easier then use a sheet to lay on the floor. Why would you want to clean up more than you have to? You can spend .50 at a yard sale and get a good sheet to use to cover things.

Clean the walls first
When you are getting ready to paint make sure the walls are clean. If you paint on dirty walls then the paint won't hold as good and you can see the dirt marks through the paint.

And finally for the last tip that you can use on your own is to hire someone to do the work you don't want to. If you absolutely hate to paint the trim but you love to use the roller then hire somebody to paint the trim for you. It is the quick fix to hated problem. I hope these tips help you the next time you are going to pain. Make sure you use them each and every time.

  • When using a roller, first brush the paint out 6” from any trim, corners, and areas where the color changes. This allows you roll away with little repercussions, kind of like high-roller on a hot craps table.

  • This is great. Painting your house by yourself really helps you saves a lot of money.

  • Thanks for the handy painting tips. They are indeed practical especially for a small painting project that I intend to do. With rising painting services, painting minor parts of the house yourself can help save on costs. I plan to do some repainting on my laundry area before the rains come. Since you are the experts, what is the best type of paint I should use to protect the walls from dampness and frequent water splatters? The walls are made of hollow cement blocks and I'm told they are prone to seepages. I look forward to more DIY home painting tips. Thanks again.

Another tip is to paint the ceiling first and let it dry for 24 hours before you do the walls. And, also wash the ceiling. I'm amazed at the number of painters who don't wash walls. Always ask when hiring out.
