We had an amazing time at the center of the handmade universe, Etsy! I hope you enjoy our photos as much as we enjoyed taking them.
Last week we were invited back to New York to attend a sneak preview of Lowe’s Designer Challenge. Last year’s Lowe’s event with Nate Berkus was such a huge hit we knew they would hit the mark again and they did. We arrived at the Chelsea Arts Tower on the […]
This was the first time we’ve attended the International Contemporary Furniture Fair and we found it fascinating. It’s held at the Jacob Javits center in New York which is a huge tradeshow complex on the Westside. The beautiful furniture and products on display made walking the aisle a joy and […]
If you’ve had the unfortunate task of calling for a bedbug exterminator, the guy or gal that shows up at your door could be the next Jake Gyllenhaal or Anne Hathaway. An odd article from the Wall Street Journal identifies struggling actors as prime candidates to be bedbug exterminators. The […]
You can go behind the scenes on the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway on HGTV Pro. Check out photos and video of the home that is currently being built near Stowe, Vermont. They are calling it “rustic meets modern”. They’ve been building all summer and its fun to check out their […]
Living in New York City is amazing but unless you’ve got the big bucks you’re typically relegated to less than desirable apartments. But if you win this Urban Oasis from HGTV you can live like a King or Queen. A new, contemporary residence with sweeping vistas of the New York […]
We recently had the good fortune to spend a few hours with Andrew Wagner the new editor-in-chief of ReadyMade magazine (formerly of Dwell and American Craft). He’s actually been on the job for a few months now and we’ve got to say the magazine has been looking great! First he […]
Bed bugs are becoming more of a nuisance in New York City and elsewhere around the country. You can be your own bed bug exterminator if you’ve already confirmed that you have bed bugs (bites, seeing bugs or droppings). If you think you have bed bugs but don’t want to […]
New York City apartment dwellers are facing a quandary. The city is aggressively going after landlords who allow temporary walls built that aren’t to code (most aren’t). This problem stems from a fatal 2005 fire and the city’s drive to eliminate illegally installed temporary walls in Stuyvesant Town (building development […]
We just returned from a visit to the handmade center of the universe, Etsy. They recently moved to a fabulous location in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn and built out their own space in a large warehouse loft. In keeping with the do-it-yourself and handmade mantra, they’ve decorated the space […]
Inspector Says He Faked Results in Building Tests A safety inspector’s admission that he submitted clean asbestos or lead results for buildings in New York that he never inspected raises many troubling questions. New-Homes Sales Jump 27% Some Economists Think Rise Is Overstated and That Sales Are Simply Being Shifted […]
Is there anything man’s best friend can’t do? From being a loyal companion to protecting your family and property, dogs are indispensable members of our family. They now can defend your home against one of the most insidious intruders around, the bedbug. The Bedbug Inspectors used trained dogs to determine […]
We thoroughly enjoyed our days living in New York’s West Village (enough that we named this blog after our cross streets). We miss the quaint tree-lined streets, impeccably restored brownstones and neighborhood institution Garber Hardware which has been serving New Yorkers in Manhattan and the West Village since 1884. Nathaniel […]
Our favorite design piece last year, Glassybaby, is now opening a second shop in New York’s West Village just down the street from our favorite old pub the White Horse. Glassybaby keeps it simple. Hand-blown glass votives that are nearly indestructible and come in a variety of colors and hues.
We recently contributed to TimeOut New York’s Home Design 2009 issue which hit newsstands today. We’re featured in the Steal This Idea section for creating a patina mirror just like you’ve seen on the walls of your favorite French bistro (We prefer Le Singe Vert over Schiller’s any night). Pick […]
Fishs Eddy has always been one of our favorite home stores in New York. They offer unique glassware, plates, stemware and other kitchen accessories for an awesome price. Recently the LA Times found the Floorplan collection from the Fishs Eddy designers which of course has floorplans printed across mugs, coasters, […]
Chris from Apartment Therapy turned us onto a great new blog Our Brooklyn Roof Garden. The images found here make us long for New York again but we are still enjoying our outdoor space much more here in LA. Our downstairs neighbors kept a nice courtyard full of fresh flowers […]
As This Old House turns 30 years old, Boston Magazine has chronicled the history of the PBS show through photos and brief interviews with the show creators, producers, and hosts. The current This Old House website has a house project directory but very little information about the shows incarnation and […]
Anyone who has visited New York is probably familiar with the iconic subway map that was designed by Michael Hertz Associates. Illustrator Christoph Niemann was remodeling his bathroom and took subway tile to the next level. He used this map as inspiration to tile his bathroom floors and walls.
Today is moving day and we’ll be taking the next two weeks to drive cross-country. We wish we only had has much stuff as the photo above but alas it’s amazing what you can fit into a one-bedroom apartment. I think we need to check in with Uncluterrer more often. […]
