Trim And Decorate Your Walls Without Paint

Paint is an incredibly versatile medium, but you can also change the look (and functionality) of a wall without it. Common household items can do double-duty, so if you’re looking to update a room, consider these ideas.
* Adhesive Velcro circles. These are best used on a wall that doesn’t mind a little wear and tear, as you may have to scrape off the circle to remove it. Use these in a child’s room or play area to affix letters, shapes and other learning tools to a wall. Or, mount a dry-erase calendar in a kitchen or other central area to help with your organization.
* Ribbon. This is a painstaking process, but the results are well worth it. If you’re using a wallpaper border in a room or want to delineate between two different shades, use ribbon to frame the border or serve as a divider. You’ll want to affix a small portion of the ribbon at a time so you can ensure an even result.

* Electrical tape. Craving a striped wall but don’t want to mess with paint or wallpaper? Try electrical tape, of all things, as long as you don’t mind black stripes. A High-Heeled Foot in the Door has a complete tutorial, including advice on how to find the middle of your wall. Like the ribbon trim, this is a time-consuming process, and you’ll want to have a tape measure and pencil at the ready. The advantage to using electrical tape is that it can be easily removed from the wall, should you get the urge to try another look.
