Apartment Therapy cued us into the sale of Jennifer Bartlett’s 5 bedroom and 5 bath home/studio across the street from our offices in New York’s West Village. We’ve always found the building a bit drab from the outside considering it’s next door to the West Village’s oldest building (1820’s Federal style townhome) which was recently renovated and painted a bright hue of yellow/green. But from our rooftop we had spied a pool on the 3rd floor so we knew it wasn’t just any building.
It’s a beautiful home and as you can see by the list price ($19.5 million) New York real estate hasn’t budged much. It’s available through Sotheby’s and if we had the coin I’m sure we could manage living and working from there.
Spectacular transformation of 1911 West Village warehouse. Former residence/art gallery of Walter P. Chrysler, Jr., redesigned in 1992 by current owner, an esteemed contemporary artist, into 12,800 +/- SF of light-filled living space, offices, studios and 2,500 +/- SF of multilevel gardens and terraces, in collaboration with noted landscape designer Madison Cox. Extremely versatile interior features 50′ Living/Dining room with fireplace opening onto huge terrace, chef’s Kitchen, spacious Library with fireplace and up to 5 Bedrooms. Upstairs, enclosed lap pool, with fireplace and Hudson River view, opens onto lavish rooftop gardens where flowering plants abound – wisteria, peonies, magnolias, clematis, apple and pear trees, grape arbor, shrub garden and lawn and thriving summer rose garden. Linked by charming exterior stair to lush lower deck adjacent to the glass-walled living space where trees and shrubs surround dining terrace and koi pond. The ultimate country house in the city.
