Apartment Renovation Inspiration

I can’t stop looking at the pictures of a full apartment renovation that recently appeared in a guest post on one of my favorite blogs, A Brooklyn Limestone In Progress. The contributor, Nicole Cohen, just launched her own blog but stopped over at BL to share a wealth of pictures and information.
Nicole and her husband purchased the apartment with their two-week-old baby in tow. Almost two years later, Nicole says the apartment is approaching completion. Their full-scale renovation included combining two apartments and extending the kitchen, but I couldn’t help but be inspired by a number of thoughtful touches that truly enhance the space.

I love the beamed ceiling with built-in lighting (pictured at the top of the post)–what a great way to add architectural detail and functionality.

On the other side of the living room, Nicole installed a wall of beveled brick mirrors that reflect the view from the windows and enlarge the already bright space. Be sure to check out the kitchen photos, too. This area proved to be the most complicated, as it was enlarged to include a larger refrigerator, two ovens and a breakfast bar, but the results seem well worth the effort.
What are your thoughts on the project? And where are you seeking your current DIY inspiration (besides Charles & Hudson, of course!)
