Are Single-Basin Sinks Superior?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve lived in homes with double-basin sinks. Although I sometimes find myself cramped for space, I’ve developed inherent habits that instruct me to use the left side for rinsing/washing/pre-dishwasher purgatory and the right side for drying hand-washed items.
I may not be ready for my own kitchen renovation, but I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about my dream kitchen. One of the focal points of that area? The sink. And thanks to a post from Megan B. at Shelterrific, I find myself being swayed to a deep, single-basin model.

Like most people, Megan found herself with a relatively shallow, double-basin sink upon moving into her home. She sought something more functional that would “eliminate the wasted space that exists in a double basin.”
One successful trip to Home Depot later, Megan opted for an 8 1/4-inch deep stainless steel single-basin sink, along with a functional and eye-catching new faucet fixture. She proclaimed installation “a breeze,” and also gained more under-sink cabinet space despite the new sink’s deeper size.
Now it’s your turn to weigh in! What type of sink is in your kitchen? Would you prefer a different model? And which do you think is most functional: single-, double- or triple-basin sinks?
