A Monster on the Hardwood: Dyson DC44 Animal Vacuum Review

We’ve been coveting a Dyson vacuum for ages. The Hot+Cool fan heater is amazing and the design fits into any room of our house and can be used year round. The Dyson DC44 Animal seemed like another natural fit for our home as it’s small convenient size makes it the perfect tool to clean the hardwood floors of our 900 sqft home. The fact that it’s cordless is the real kicker.

We have an Oreck that works great but the cord is always a hassle and it’s limited to only cleaning floors whereas the Dyson DC44 can reach areas off the floor and comes with multiple attachments for specific cleaning purposes.

The DC44 arrives in a few pieces but all you need to do is snap together the vacuum tube to the floor attachment and vacuum body and you are ready to go. There is a handy docking station that the vacuum sits in so anytime you aren’t using it, it will be charging and ready to go. It hangs on the wall and only sticks out a few inches so you can fit it into the tiniest of areas.

The articulating ball at the base of the vacuum allows you to reach any corner and under the lowest couches. It’s a genius design that of course Dyson would come up. The famous root cyclone technology that powers the vacuum will never lose suction and the canister is easy to open and dump into the trash when finished so no more dirty bags.

The DC44 not only tackles hardwood but will clean carpeted floors as well. It probably wouldn’t work well with a deep shag but it’s perfect for our low-pile carpets.

Our favorite feature is the boost mode. It’s like revving up the RPM’s and gives you that little extra power to pickup heavier items or for a bigger mess. The DC44 has a runtime of 30 minutes but goes down to 8 if you keep the boost mode engaged so we just recommend using it when you need more help, otherwise the regular mode works great.
