While perusing our local Home Depot for some fall project items, we found ourselves eyeballing the countertop selection. We’re not really in the market for a new countertop, but we like to keep tabs on what’s available through the retailer. Imagine our delight upon discovering the ECO by Cosentino line, a recycled materials countertop range.
This line is made of at least 75% post-consumer and/or post-industrial materials and is bound by an environmentally-friendly resin. The company states that their product is different than other recycled countertops because they ensure that the materials they use have reached the end of their use cycle, therefore saving both natural resources and landfill space by incorporating them in their products.
What are the materials used in the ECO line? Why, porcelain, mirror, glass, and stone scraps, while the resin is a corn-based compound. During the manufacturing process, the company also manages to recycle 94% of the water used in production while maintaining strict proceedures to make sure no harmful particles are released into the local ecosystem.
Available in ten shades, the countertop is non-porous and resists staining, scratching and scortching, and is backed by a 10-year limited warranty. The product is also Cradle-to-Cradle, NSF, and GreenGuard-certified.
We love nothing more than seeing green options become easily available to the greater public, and at reasonable price points to boot (especially if you’re considering natural or engineered stone).
