Green Building Popularity on the Rise

Green building has become overwhelmingly popular, as consumers and contractors alike seek out environmentally friendly products and practices in the pursuit of sustainability.
But just how pervasive is green building? Franklyn Carter of NPR.org writes that “green building now accounts for nearly one-third of new construction in the U.S.”
This impressive statistic is made even more significant when you consider that, across the board, the national real estate market has been a victim of the troubled economy. Yet green building defies that grim trend and presents a new wealth of opportunities for both buyers and builders.

Cater notes that the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program is a defining factor in green building’s continued growth. Increased buzz around LEED certification proved to be an effective marketing campaign, inspiring growing demand for structures that meet LEED qualifications.
Have you seen an increase in green building in your area? And has the heightened focus on green building made you seek out sustainable materials or processes?
