Glam Up Your Cement Floors With Glitter

For a long time at our house, we’ve been discussing how to handle our basement floor. Despite being freshly (albeit poorly and incorrectly) painted before we moved in, a combination of bad workmanship, poor color choice, and the wear and tear of a DIY home renovation (think paint splatter, dropped tools, various debris) have left us with a bitter taste in our mouths. We’ve tossed around a bunch of ideas, especially when it comes to the laundry and future mom cave area, which are the most finished spaces down there, but nothing like the project we’re about to show you.

Sure, glittered floors aren’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but in our brightly colored and slightly offbeat house, this would fit right in.
Using a home garage floor epoxy kit, a large amount of craft store glitter, and five coats of polyurethane as a sealant, you too can have a sparkle-tastic floor for your basement, garage, or any other concrete surface you may walk upon. Kathy, also known as the Crafty Chica, used this in her craft room, but imagine the possibilities to snazz up any old space.
Say you’re into classic cars — you could turn your garage into a 1950’s style diner-themed place complete with silver sparkle floor. Or if you have a basement playroom for your kids, you could throw down various colors of glitter to make the space more playful and fun. Even if you have a man (or mom!) cave, a deep charcoal color and corresponding glitter could give a cool, edgy, almost club-like vibe to your space without other sparkly-yet-costly materials like granite, marble, or quartz. Even small outdoor spaces like a potting shed, greenhouse, or playhouse could only benefit from a little shimmer under your feet.
We think this is a great, inexpensive way to have some fun with what would regularly be some pretty boring, possibly even ugly concrete floors.
