It’s been two years since I last attended the International Builder’s Show (IBS). Two years ago in Orlando it was like a ghost town. The show was down to one hall and the aisles were empty. The recession hit the building industry as hard as any and it was showing with the lack of exhibitors on the floor and the dearth of builders in attendance.
Fast forward two years and with the show back in Las Vegas it seems like things are on the way up. Indicators have pointed to the housing market up almost 2x what it was a year ago and that new found confidence seems to have the builders back in action and looking for new product and services.
The exhibit halls were busy all three days and unlike recent years the aisles were bustling and many booths were packed.
There were iPad giveaways (Formica celebrating it’s 100th birthday), salsa bands (El Dorado Stone), and singing in the showers (Kohler Moxie).
Next year promises to be even bigger as it was just announced that IBS and K/BIS (Kitchen and Bath Industry Show) will be at the same time next year in Vegas. Should be a party!
