Personal Experience: A Family Adventure to the Texas Eclipse
Our journey with Blacksford began at their Las Vegas office, managed by the wonderful Cindee, who made our experience memorable. As we arrived, she welcomed us with a birthday banner for our youngest boy, complete with Lego sets and drawing materials for the road—perfect for keeping the kids engaged during our travels.
Knowing we were first-timers with a 7-night and 8-day itinerary mainly consisting of dry camping, Cindee spent an hour explaining all the systems of our 2023 Winnebago Solis PX. Her thorough orientation covered everything from the toilet operation to tips on packing essentials and using the RV’s facilities, including the shower, hot water, air conditioning, and heater.
Our adventure took us from Las Vegas to Burnett, Texas, for the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Although the Texas Eclipse festival was canceled due to weather, we still experienced a breathtaking 4 minutes and 23 seconds of totality from a picturesque riverside park.
The journey was as enriching as the destination, with stops in Tucson, the mysterious “Thing” in Benson, the surreal landscapes of White Sands National Park and Carlsbad Caverns, and the artistic enclave of Marfa.
Our return trip was equally memorable, featuring visits to the Alamo, dinner on San Antonio’s Riverwalk, a day in Austin, thrift shopping in Albuquerque, dinner at Pizzicleta in Flagstaff, and the awe-inspiring Meteor Crater in Arizona.
But, the unique roadside stops we discovered and boondocking adventures remain the most memorable and something we’d never experience from a standard fly and hotel trip.
An RV road trip makes these possible, from an open-air shower in rainy Austin to an impromptu visit at the Prada store in Marfa.
Cindee was a constant support throughout our trip, available by phone or text for any questions. This greatly eased our concerns as RV newbies.
