I love the 80’s. Well, not all of it. When it comes to fashion, most of that decade should be left behind. But, Vasque has reached into their archives and reintroduced the Clarion ’88 GTX, which is a legend that we are happy to see return.
This iconic hiking boot retains the styling that made it popular 30 years ago, but Vasque has infused it with modern tech to create a lightweight, comfortable, and durable boot.
Available for both men and women, the Clarion ’88 GTX has been released in muted gray colors, highlighted by dark blue or teal, which is the perfect palette for an 80’s inspired boot.
Review
I spent the first day in these boots doing some heavy-duty yard work. These boots don’t need breaking in, but I like to feel comfortable in them before hitting the trail. The Vibram outsole is stiff and supple and held up well as I wore them to dig about 20 holes.
Don’t let the suede leather fool you, this boot is waterproof, and features a Gore-Tex technology to keep your feet dry in the wettest of conditions. I brought these boots with me on a trip to Lake Tahoe and although I never got the boots fully-wet, they did feel solid on some slick rock at Glen Alpine Falls.
I’ve really enjoyed wearing these around town, as they make a great casual boot that doesn’t scream “I’m a hiker”. I do wish they’d introduced a few more colorways.
This limited-edition boot is priced at $159.99 and will be available on August, 15 on Vasque.com
