It’s time to show your favorite DIYer how much you appreciate all the work they do around the house and in the workshop. Our workwear gift guide includes some of the toughest and most comfortable gear we could find. These are performance pieces that should provide better protection and more comfort than standard work clothes.
Helly Hansen – Chelsea Construction Pants
We’re big fans of Helly Hansen workwear. Their streamlined designs are a welcome change to many of the bulky workwear options you probably have in your closet. Europeans have taken workwear seriously for decades, and Americans are finally realizing we can benefit from technical workwear instead of worn out denim.
The Chelsea Construction pant has some technical features that are similar to the Blaklader pants we tested a couple years ago, but these pants are much lighter and more comfortable. They’re made from a durable and breathable cotton mix, with a reinforced knee, bottom hem and hanging pockets. They feature a crotch gusset for greater movement and durability and a raised back for comfort and fit in any position, i.e. no plumbers butt.
Keen – Tacoma Waterproof Work Boots
We visited Keen headquarters earlier this year, and saw first hand how much care and craftsmanship went into producing their work boots. We’ve tested a few of them this year, but the one boot that we keep coming back to is the Keen Tacoma. It features a lightweight composite safety toe as well as waterproof leather and a slip-resistant sole which make it ideal for outdoor work in all conditions.
Carhartt – Full Swing Sandstone Jacket
Carhartt coats are always a favorite and their new line of full swing coats have become our new favorites. No more bunching in the shoulders for us broad guys. The jacket is made for movement, which is what you need on the jobsite. The materials are soft and it’s sherpa lined for even more comfort.
Dickies – Diamond Quilted Nylon Jacket
For a lighter jacket that is also warm, check out this new jacket from Dickies. It’s nylon exterior is water repellent and the diamond quilting and soft pockets keep you warm.
Wolverine Ironwood Jacket
Wolverine makes more than just work boots. Their new Ironwood jacket is fantastic! It’s designed to offer ease of movement and includes a comfy sherpa lining and storm cuffs at the neck, wrists, and waist, to seal in warmth.
Milwaukee M12 3-1 Heated Jacket Kit
Milwaukee heated gear gets better each year. They’ve improved on their Rip-Stop jacket with a new 3-1 heated jacket that offers more mobility, lighter weight, but the same durability. It’s heated by their popular M12 battery platform, and is machine washable.
